Well it's been a while since I last blogged! This year I have been focused on my career so triathlons have taken a back seat but will get back to them soon. I have some time on my hands right now so I decided to do some Gutbuster races.. Fun stuff!!! Gutbusters are races up mountains, jumping over mud and other obstacles... "Love it!" So yesterday May 17th I did the first one Mt.Tzouhalem it started at 10am and I was ready to go.. My mind said just have a great time and be careful.. Must not get a injury he he.. I started off well.. kept an easy pace so I had fuel in the tank for the climb. I was running up the first part of the climb but it got steeper and steeper so I power walked up some. The short course was 6k but I swear it was much longer! The climb did not end! I know it was all in my head or may be my quads! I did pass a few people on the way up but then was on my own so I didn't know where I was in the pack. The weather was perfect! warm and a cool breeze so I didn't over heat. My Ceevacs club was hosting this race so I saw many familiar faces a long the route. When I got to the water stop there was Laura with some much needed water:0) At the very top of the climb with the awesome view there was Lucy Gal.. camera in hand "oh no" lol.. and then I got to fly down the mountain.. and I did just that! The route fools you though cause when you think your done with climbing the course had two more good climbs. I still did not know where I was placing.. I knew there were a few behind me and I had passed two coming down the mountain but didn't know how many where in front of me. The end was near and I was looking for my sweet Hubby who was waiting.. and there he was armed with his camera. I looked at my watch and it said 55:14 which was good enough for me.. This one was tough course! I still say it's longer then 6k! Ivan said he was sure I placed.. He was right! I was first in my age group.. not bad considering I haven't done any races this year and no real mountain runs. I am still waiting to find out where I came in over all. I think I was up near the top.. I hope to find out today.
What a great day it was and my legs are very sore today! but worth it... I look forward to the next one on May 31st! Until then......
